The Macon Waves Swim Team, a program of the Macon-Bibb County Parks and Recreation department and Macon Waves, Inc., has been in existence since 1975.

The Recreation Department founded the Macon Waves swim team as a summer program in 1975. The next year the parents were asked to form an association to manage the team while the Recreation Department continued its sponsorship. Within a few years the team evolved into a year-round activity. n The Recreation Department supports the team during the summer season. This support consists of access to two pools – one in the mornings and one in the evenings. In return, the Waves offer an outstanding summer program to the community at a minimal cost. n The swim team celebrated its 25th anniversary last summer at the Macon Heritage swim meet and dinner afterwards

Our philosophy is to:
  • Promote Competitive Swimming
  • Provide the opportunity to learn and develop the basics of competitive swimming to one’s fullest potential
  • Teach good sportsmanship and teamwork
  • Respect authority, play fair, and strive to improve. Winning is not as important as striving to do one’s best
  • Teach the value of team loyalty and friendships
  • Develop self-confidence, self-motivation, and self-discipline
  • Encourage the lifelong habit of physical fitness
  • Encourage fun through sport
