Betsy Dunbar Athlete Award Info
BETSY DUNBAR “ATHLETES” AWARD NOMINATIONS An Award
initiated by the Athletes Committee in 1993, this award of
$1,000.00 is presented every year to a Georgia Swimmer who is
currently in the year of or the year following their fourth
year of collegiate swimming and has participated in at least
one Georgia meet each year during College. The individual
receiving this award will be judged by the Georgia Swimming
Board of Directors on the basis of leadership, performance,
and academic achievement in the spirit of the Bill Young
Award. To be eligible, the athlete must submit proof of
graduation, and a letter of recommendation from each of the
following: a college teammate, a college faculty member and
their college swim coach by June 1, 20XX.
The award was renamed in 2001 in honor of Betsy Dunbar, a
tireless age group volunteer for the LSC for many years.
Please submit your nominations to the Administrative Vice
Chair by June, 1 20XX.

New Bill Young Award Information
The Bill Young Award is given annually by the LSC to a
graduated high school senior. The award is presented at the
Georgia All Star Ceremony following the LC Championships.
Historically the All Star presentation occurred in January.
Since the LSC has moved the All Star Ceremony to the summer
season, the Bill Young recipient would have graduated a full
year prior to selection. In an effort to recognize our
athletes in a more timely fashion, it was proposed that the
Bill Young Award deadline be changed to June 1, 200X and that
nominees be selected from the most recently graduating high
school class. This proposal was accepted by the HOD and will
be effective immediately.
Please review the qualifications of all graduating high
school seniors being considered for the Bill Young Award and
submit your nomination to The Administrative Chair by June 1,
200X.
